Our Family Support Officers can offer their time to parents and carers who have specific concerns about their children or who maybe just need a little extra help themselves.
With many years of combined experience working with families and children with additional needs, they offer information and advice in these areas and beyond, including:
- Providing information, support, and advice to enable parents to have confidence to deal with issues around their child’s education and wellbeing.
- Support in making a parental application for an Education Health Care Plan Needs Assessment.
- Supporting parents who are seeking to obtain a diagnosis for their child or who need help with a referral.
- Providing (or signposting to) specific training and support so parents have a better understanding of their children’s condition.
- Supporting parents to apply for disability specific benefits for their children i.e. DLA or PIP.
- Providing information and support regarding other services that is available in their area.
How we offer this support:
- Space 2 Talks – Informal support groups for parents of children with additional needs
- Drop-In Support – Individual in-person support to parents
- Neurodivergent Parent Group – Informal peer support groups for parents who are neurodivergent themselves
- Clinic appointments – Bookable 30 minute telephone or Teams appointment
- Space 2 Learn – Workshops and training for parents
- Parent Wellbeing – Opportunities for parents to take time for themselves and connect with others
BOOKABLE 1:1 CLINIC APPOINTMENTS
Parents/carers can book a 30-minute appointment Teams or telephone call with a Family Support Officer. We may invite you for a follow up if needed.
We appreciate that some people would prefer in-person support and we offer a range of options for this including; 1:1 Drop-Ins, Space 2 Talks & support groups for Neurodivergent Parents. You can find more information about all of these services here. If none of these are suitable for you, we can arrange an in person 1:1 at our office in Maidstone or venue closer to you (e.g. local coffee shop) – we do not offer home visits. How to Request Support
To request support, please complete our Parent Request form. Your enquiry will be received once the form is submitted – there’s no need to submit it more than once.
After submitting the form, you will be directed to our clinic booking page, where you can choose a date and time that suits you. If needed, you can reschedule or cancel your appointment using the confirmation email or by contacting us at support@space2beme.org.uk.
If you do not book an appointment your details will be added to our wait list, and a Family Support Officer will be in touch. Please allow up to 4 weeks for contact.
