Michelle Casey, mum to Izzy, a bubbly young girl with autism and ADHD, is taking on The Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge in May 2024 to raise vital funds for Space 2 Be Me, a local charity supporting children and young people with disabilities across West Kent.

The Ultra Challenge will involve walking 106 km around the Isle of Wight coastline, along the spectacular southern cliffs, past the iconic Needles, and up to historic Cowes.

Fundraising for Space 2 Be Me

Michelle aims to raise £2,000 or more to ensure the Space 2 Be Me clubs and family support services are able to continue to help families like theirs.

Michelle says, “One of the best things to happen to us was meeting Space 2 Be Me. We had limited knowledge of SEND and it was such a relief to meet Helen, one of Space 2 Be Me’s lovely Family Support Officers. She helped us with lots of paperwork to access everything we didn’t even realise Izzy was entitled to!

Over the years, Space 2 Be Me has provided a listening ear when needed, welcomed us to various activities throughout the school holidays which we have all enjoyed, and provided an inclusive after-school club.

Since then, we have found our ‘tribe’ – a regular Space 2 Be Me club for Izzy to meet friends. Somewhere she can go where she doesn’t need to hide or mask. And somewhere parents can go to meet others who are going through similar experiences.”

“With my Ultra Challenge I decided to support Space 2 Be Me as it’s important to give something back to them as they have given us so much support over the years. It doesn’t go unnoticed!”

How you can help

You can help Michelle reach her fundraising target of £2,000 by clicking on the donation button below.

Michelle says, “It would be amazing to raise this money to secure vital funds for the Space 2 Be Me Clubs and Family Support Service. Izzy really misses her club when it’s not on, we would love for it to secure the funding to ensure it can keep running on a regular basis. Because for Izzy, like many children who have additional needs – life can be very isolating.”

Space 2 Be Me Communications Manager, Lottie Berry, says, “We are thrilled to hear about the difference we have made to Space 2 Be Me family Michelle, Richard and their daughter Izzy. As a small charity, fundraising events like this can make the difference between a club closing or running which means we can support many more children and young adults with additional needs. And with our Family Support Service, we make a difference to the lives of the parents and carers too. Thank you Michelle and Good Luck for the Challenge!”
